Representing the best of English watchmaking and sadly the last. The Benson is in a solid gold ALD Birmingham made case signed by Benson. The case is hallmarked 1949/50. Movement is also signed by Benson and is previous to the 16 jewel version on the later LUDGATE watches. Movement is, of course, made by Smiths for Benson. Sadly Benson felt the thump of one of Hitler's bombs which destroyed their stock and wrecked their hopes of ever again being a true watchmaker. This baby is 31mm diameter the case has been cleaned and polished and the original dial cleaned, movement dismantled and serviced, new glass. It runs to excellent performance on the Vibrograf tester and should keep good time. I have added a nice Ludgate box and a new strap. I like the dial, yes its 60 years old but looks better than me! Nice gift for someone coming up to their 3 score years.!!English watches like this one, will easily last longer than we do, how sad we gave up watchmaking. This movement is very strong and in no way inferior to a swiss watch.
